Nui Dat, South Vietnam. 6 November 1971. The final withdrawal of Australian troops from Nui Dat really went off with a bang for Private John O'Shaughnessy of Croydon Park, SA (left), and Private Mario Moltedo of Warradale, SA, both members of the Mortar Platoon, 4RAR /NZ (ANZAC) (The ANZAC Battalion comprising 4th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment and a component from the 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment). They were taking part in the last firing of 81mm mortars before extraction to Vung Tau on the coast.

Nui Dat, South Vietnam, 10 November 1971. Returning to Nui Dat from their final patrol in Vietnam, these men of B Company, 4RAR /NZ (ANZAC) (The ANZAC Battalion comprising 4th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment and a component from the 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment), were to move with their Battalion to Vung Tau prior to embarkation for Australia. The soldier leading is carrying a 7.62mm GMPG M60 machine gun and two belts of ammunition.

Nui Dat, South Vietnam. November 1971. The last Australian troops to leave Nui Dat, home of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) in Vietnam for more than five years, rumble past the main gate of the base aboard armoured personnel carriers (APCs) on their way to Vung Tau. Vung Tau has now became the main base for the marshalling of units for embarkation and the closing down of unit stores ready for shipment back to Australia.

Nui Dat, South Vietnam. November 1971. Boarding a RAAF Caribou aircraft at Nui Dat, for the last time are troops of C Company of the 4RAR /NZ (ANZAC) (The ANZAC Battalion comprising 4th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment and a component from the 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment). The flight to Vung Tau, which has become the main base for the marshalling of units for embarkation and the closing down of unit stores ready for shipment back to Australia, ended the combat role in Vietnam for these troops. Other troops in the Battalion moved to Vung Tau by road convoys and RAAF Iroquois helicopters.

Nui Dat, South Vietnam. November 1970. Watched by a group of interested soldiers, professional boxer, Fred Holt of ?Takalarup, WA (right), avoids a left jab from Sapper Barry Gibson of Dee Why, NSW, a soldier from 1st Field Squadron, based at Nui Dat. The occasion was a competition bout in an improvised ring at Nui Dat during the visit of a six man boxing team sponsored by the Sportsman's Appeal for the Australian Forces in Vietnam (AFV). The troupe spent four days at Nui Dat giving exhibition bouts and competitive bouts with soldiers of the Task Force.

Nui Dat, South Vietnam. April 1971. Father D. B. Casey on his motorcycle out on the road outside the Chaplain's hut at Nui Dat, Headquarters of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF). Father Casey, chaplain with 1st Field Squadron at the Task Force often had to walk his round but had just taken delivery of the motorcycle from the Task Force Light Aid Detachment (LAD) Unit. The motorcycle was originally intended for use by the Vietnamese padres but proved to be too heavy for them. Members of the LAD recovered it and restored it in their spare time.
