Nui Dat, South Vietnam. November 1970. Five thousand miles from home, two sappers serving in South Vietnam lodge their applications for postal votes for the Senate elections this month, with Lieutenant Bill Carlton of South Perth, WA (left). They are Sapper Frank Midawine of Woolgoolga, NSW (centre), and Sapper John Clayton of Springvale, Vic. They are all soldiers of 17th Construction Squadron based at Nui Dat.

Nui Dat, South Vietnam. November 1970. Pizza specialist, Corporal Greg Townsend, pours dough into pizza rings as he mixes a batch of pizzas for men of the 161 Independent Reconnaissance Flight at Nui Dat. Corporal Townsend, 22, of Glen Innes, NSW, is one of 200 Army cooks serving in South Vietnam with the Australian Army Catering Corps. All of whom are now busy preparing Christmas fare for the troops.

Nui Dat, South Vietnam. May 1971. 29175 Sergeant David Brown, an air traffic controller with 161 Independent Reconnaissance Flight, climbing a 60 foot ladder to his unusual office at Luscombe Air Field in Nui Dat. Sergeant Brown has completed nine months of his second tour of the war zone.

Weir, Deputy Commander of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF), takes the salute from the men of C Squadron, 1st Armoured Regiment, as the unit's last Centurion tank to be withdrawn from operations in Vietnam drives ceremoniously from the parade ground. The farewell parade was held at Nui Dat in Phuoc Tuy Province.
