Photos Yugoslav Wars

In my opinion Tito's period held together rather well, he kept all sides under control particularly those with ancient grudges to settle.
Barely. Yugoslavia started tearing itself apart in the late 60s, with liberal student protests in Belgrade and Albanian nationalist ones in Pristina, the "Croatian Spring" in the 70s, open hostility between the Serbian and Croatian portions of the State Security Service, the Constitution of '74, and so on.

The country was bound to collapse, and an inordinate amount of restraint and wisdom was required for it to happen bloodlessly. Even if he was alive today, Broz would have been lamenting the bloody dissolution of Yugoslavia from somewhere in California, much like Gorbachev. That is, if he survived those who had an ax to grind against him personally, of which there were many on all sides.

He was more or less in control from 1945-63, immediate post war years were the hardest for many European nations so not bad going for a man who faced Stalin anger, he was never going to please all of the people all of the time, few ever do.

'More or less' being the operative words. There are those (to whom I belong) that think that he was just a figurehead, with Rankovic, Dolanc, and the others wrestling for control in the background. It's kinda logical when you think about it. Let the fat man have his photo-shoots and screw Sophia Loren while we wrestle for power and back stab each other while the country slowly tears itself to shreds.

Ill-fated (for the Croats) Operation Una 95. The Croatian Army tried to cross the river Una and capture Prijedor, exploiting the fact that most of Bosnian Serb forces were defending against the Croat-Muslim offensive in the South. They managed to secure a bridgehead, but were quickly pushed back by counterattacks and accurate artillery fire.

A member of a Serbian paramilitary group called White Eagles during the siege of Vukovar November 1991. He is armed with Zastava M70b1 or M70ab2 model assault rifle

Its a B1, as is the one in the pic below. The AB2 was the folding stock version. You can just about make out the butt, but you can also see the barrel attachment for launching mine trimblonske (rifle grenades) which no sane person would use with a folding stock!
