Intro TheMess.Net Landing Page

I feel like an idiot for not actually introducing myself properly so I am going to rectify that with the following post.

I joined mp.net back in 2004 and stayed there until its closing - loved the website because it was photo heavy and a lot of the members were fun along the way. Joined The Mess at it's debut opening until it's untimely death scheduled at the end of this month (I believe). Been in the weekend warrior military for 14 years so far with 3 MOS's (68W (medic) /68X (mental health) /88N (transportation management)). Deployed several times to the sandbox with another on the way. Also currently planning on retiring at 20 years to end this chapter in my life.

I have a few nerdy hobbies like gundam model building and airsoft. I used to snowmobile, but gave it up after this winter. That's me in a nut shell, sooner or later you guys will figure out how crazy I am. lolz.

My intro too was more an update of where the other forums were at.
I'm Australian, Western Australian by birth, grew up in a tiny town in the South West in a wheat and sheep farming area, but have lived and worked across most of the country.
6 years in the Infantry, 8/9RAR and 6RAR, mostly Reconnaissance Platoon in 6RAR, also in Signals Platoon, and a visual tracker, deployed to East Timor in 2000.
Have spent most of my time since getting out as a miner, open cut bulk explosives operator/site manager, breaking rock in gold, nickel, bauxite, chromite, tantalum, manganese and iron ore mines, rail ballast quarries, large scale construction jobs (rail alignments and taking down hills for natural gas processing plants), working behind a sea wall on an island mining high grade iron ore well below sea level, and mostly in the last 9 years in a copper gold mine. It's about 10% making bomb and 90% safety/management stuff.
When I'm not doing that, I've helped run a few military forums, mainly ausmilitary.com and the other two already mentioned. And because I can't help myself, I also mod the main Royal Australian Regiment facebook group, Duty First, help run an RAR jobs page on facebook, as well and have a bit to do with a facebook based first response network, Overwatch, for at risk vets, then played a very minor part in helping a couple of TheMess Kiwi moderators start a similar organisation, No Duff. These two groups have helped save countless lives.
I'm also a pretty rabid Australian Rules Football fan, it's hard not to be, it's the greatest sport in the world!

My peers @digrar and @Kap shame me with their more respectfully thorough introductions.

I'm American, US that is. Born in raised in the South-West to be exact. Education background in history, psychology, and social work. Spent the majority of my working life in acute mental health and suicide prevention. Currently working as an emergency department pediatric mental health social worker.

No military experience myself by grew up in household of a Vietnam Veteran father who instilled a level of respect and admiration for the world's armed forces. That interest led me to mp.net roughly 2009 while google searching for images of MiG-25PD and spent the remainder of mp's life mostly lurking there. I became more active with my posting and fostering valued connections with some very awesome folks when I migrated with the mp.net survivors to themess. Looking to maintain those connections through a variety of platforms and this place seems like a nice landing pad to do so. Thanks again for the welcoming.

Main interests are the outdoors, being a bird-nerd, recreational shooting, reading, history, and many other turbo-nerd activities. Look forward to sharing in the community here.

Try and convince the people here that there is a place called Doodlakine... I'm from Jerramungup, down towards the South Coast. Mum and Dad moved there in the mid 70s for a 2 year working holiday and just returned to their home town in Victoria in 2016... It was a great place to grow up.

Know what you mean mate, try telling people there's a Perth suburb called Innaloo :D

I lived in Gwelup about a stones throw from Innaloo for a couple of years.

Not sure what to write exactly but I joined MPN back in days when it still was a page where you could only post photos and comment below them. For the most time I was known as T.S.C.Plage over there but was forced to register a new account at some point because of some unfortunate circumstances. *cough, cough*

I did my 10 month conscription time in the German Airforce in 1998/99. My main occupation was radio operator tasked to connect HAWK and Patriot missile batteries in the field via directional radio. I'm member of an association called "Brevet Hawk" which is an international friendship association trying to connect former HAWK personnel and also a member of the VdRBw which is the association of German reserve soldiers.

I was born and still live in what was called the American Sector of West-Berlin. I've multiple job educations with the first one being wholesaler but I've also worked as aviation security assistant and truck driver while my current one is game artist (art and animation).

My hobbies range from cars over listening to music and you may have guessed it already playing computer games.

Welcome to MI.Net @Marsch good to see you here.
Interesting military background there mate, I was Royal Artillery and for a very short time was stationed with an Artillery Air Defence Regiment using the tracked Rapier system
If you have any questions about the site please feel free to ask. I have applied you Mess.Net banner

Thanks, @Bombardier! Interesting is relative. I actually asked to get put into a tank but you can't always get what you want.

My unit FlaRakGrp36 was part of a bigger formation called SAM Wing 3 which was a KRK unit (crisis reaction force) at that time. Therefore we were on exercises (Op- and TacEvals) quite often. I guess that can count as interesting somehow.
Besides the HAWKs and Patriots we also had wheeled Rolands which are comparable to the Rapiers (lower heights and ranges) plus the Stingers from the Airforce security units in the formation but the latter weren't directly connected to our circle. We also had a Dutch attachment in the Wing which was stationed not that far away from us in Germany.

@downsizer: It's "kaputt" with double T to make it sound extra harsh. ;)
