September 10th 1944, units of the 5th Armored Division liberate the small town of Larochette in Luxembourg.

Well that was "Mission Impossible"!! Every house you can see in that pic has been torn down! I will put a posting in the "Battle of the Bulge Then and Now" thread in a minute!

Diekirch, Luxembourg, January 27th 1945. "Their number has come through..." GIs of the 5th Infantry Division that have just won the lottery for a furlough back to the US. For some of them the ticket home might even have saved their lives! A few days later, on February 7th 1945, the "Red Diamond" Division made a combat crossing of the "Sauer" river into Germany and suffered horrible casualties!

Yep, all tough, if you want to split hairs, on the pic is the 155mm Howitzer M1, it wasn't re-designated M114 until 1962.
