Medical Department jeep and an M8 armoured reconnaissance car on the Luxembourg-Belgian border. The GIs might be part of the 4th Armored Division, I am not 100% sure though!
Well that was "Mission Impossible"!! Every house you can see in that pic has been torn down! I will put a posting in the "Battle of the Bulge Then and Now" thread in a minute!
Diekirch, Luxembourg, January 27th 1945. "Their number has come through..." GIs of the 5th Infantry Division that have just won the lottery for a furlough back to the US. For some of them the ticket home might even have saved their lives! A few days later, on February 7th 1945, the "Red Diamond" Division made a combat crossing of the "Sauer" river into Germany and suffered horrible casualties!
Medics of the 4th Infantry Division push a wooden engineer boat, loaded with medical supplies, towards the crossing point at the Sauer river. The picture was taken on January 19th 1945 in Bettendorf, Luxembourg.
