CARTAGENA, Colombia (Dec. 31, 2019) Colombian naval officials view a Mark-110 57 mm gun system on the forecastle of the Freedom-variant littoral combat ship USS Detroit (LCS 7). During this deployment to the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility, USS Detroit, with embarked helicopter and U.S. Coast Guard law enforcement detachment, will support Joint Interagency Task Force South's mission, which includes counter-drug patrols and detection and monitoring of illicit traffic in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific. Mon 11 Feb 2008, The U. S. Coast Guard's first national security cutter took to the sea operating in concert with the service's new maritime patrol aircraft, the Ocean Sentry HC-144A, and a newly re-engined MH-65C helicopter Monday, Feb. 11, 2008. The flagship in the Coast Guard's first new class of large cutters in 25 years, Bertholf is the Coast Guard's largest ever patrol cutter. The launch in Pascagoula, Miss., began four days of builder trials that will test the cutter's systems and performance in advance of the Coast Guard formally accepting it later this spring, and commissioning the cutter for service this summer. Bertholf will be homeported in Alameda, Calif.
