What do you mean "Taken"? By the USN?

Does that mean there could not be 2 ships having the same pennant, despiste being from diferent nations?

I know NATO atributes specific pennants to each diferent member's Navy, but Australia does not belong to NATO 🤔
You gave the correct answer mate. Australia is not part of NATO but we take part in supply chain nomenclature, including pennant numbers. The USN goes it's own way even until using the same numbers on different classes 👍
 
HMS Glamorgan after being hit by an Exocet missile on June 12th, 1982.
