Haakonsvern Naval Base is Norway's main naval base, near Bergen. Recently refurbished, it has, like many of the bases in Scandinavia, important cave shelters, in this case large enough to contain even the Nansen-class frigates. Some photos.

Parnall Peto submarine-launched naval reconnaissance seaplane with HMS M2 submarine. In 1927 the old M2 was converted into a submarine aircraft carrier and the Parnall Peto was specifically designed for them. Only 2 were built as the concept did not stick View attachment 430755 View attachment 430756 View attachment 430757
The Parnall Peto was a small seaplane designed to the British Air Ministry's specification 16/24 in the early 1920s for use as a submarine-carried reconnaissance aircraft.
Two examples were designed and built by George Parnall and Company and were given serial numbers N181 and N182. The first prototype, N181, crashed at Gibraltar and was rebuilt as N255 before being lost with the submarine HMS M2 when her hangar flooded.
The Peto was one of the most challenging design projects that the Parnall company undertook, because of the very small hangar in which the aircraft had to fit.
N255 featured on the cover of the popular mechanics magazine in October 1931
