US Coast Guard-manned LST nears the Japanese held shore, Invasion of Cape Gloucester, New Britain, 24 December 1943. Crammed with men and material for the invasion.
This is something like the third or fourth wave of the landing forces, well after a beachhead is established. There’s a truck of barbed wire to establish a perimeter and plenty of POL vehicles.
By the time this LST hit the beach there would be a ton of stabilized wounded who needed evacuation, in particular from a medical station ashore to a medical evacuation ship (APH) or hospital ship (AH) well offshore (need to look into the ships available a bit more, including Army hospital ships).
