Netherlands Korps Mariniers - Joint Mountain Training
The Marines of 2 Marine Combat Group (2 MCG) arrived in North Norway last week for the Joint Mountain Training. On Saturday, the marines left for 5 days into the field and immediately in various running groups the first mountain march of about 14 kilometers with the necessary altimeters. The first day up to about 600 meters. The terrain is difficult because pathways are missing, which makes the choice of route extra important.
After spending the night in the 10 person tent, the running groups were distributed Sunday across the routes to the survival class location and to the navigation exercise location.
The weather was favorable to the Marines for the first 2 days. It was bright & sunny during the day and light night frost. The weather forecast predicts rain, however, which means that the weather will also apply in addition to the challenging terrain.
During the Vertical Assault Day, the Marines under the leadership of the Mountain Leaders practice various ways to climb and descend from a rock wall. There are several descent points, the longest of which is about 70 meters. There are also a few ways to subdue a rock wall including a clattery, button rope, cargonet and speleoladder.
