In relation to your MLRS & FH70 photos
I used to watch the MLRS firing by day and night during the first Gulf War 1991, it was an awesome sight especially at night and will remember it for the rest of my life. The FH70 I was in a British artillery regiment in North Yorkshire, England (moved to Dortmund in 1990) we used the Fh70 at that time. The Regiment was 27 Field Regiment Royal Artillery, great bunch of lads and a good gun

I think It was a great weapons. I get in touch with FH-70 back in 1992 during my first military assignment, It was on duty with neighbour artillery unit (3° Reggimento Artiglieria a cavallo). It's still in service with Italian Army (162 cannons).

Am I right in saying that these guns have small engines that move it around without be towed by a vehicle?

It's correct. It was equipped with a 1700 cc Volkswagen engine to power the hydraulics and to move the howitzer at low speed up to 20 km distance. Back in the '70 It was designed and build to satisfy common requirements of UK, German and Italian land forces. Initial request was for 212 pieces for (west) Germany, 164 for Italy 164 and 70 for UK .
