Notice how the gunners all have anti-covid masks to protect them from a virus that may or may not be present right where they are but no one is wearing their Body armour to protect them from HE rounds that very much are present and could easily go off bang smack in their midst. The DF has had it's fair share of Mortar accidents down the years. Bad drills on the part of whoever let those young gunners "go slick".
If a 120 round went "off in their midst" body armor would offer zero protection.

Totally agree. But there is a good reason why all troops on all ranges are required to wear Body armour these days. It sometimes helps to hold a body together enough for remains to be identified or in the case of a HV round to reduce the size of an exit wound. I guess the powers that be had a good reason though to mandate it's wearing on shoots. I guess someone on the day knew better:rolleyes:

I just watched the movie on Netflix about this event, did not know about it or the long awaited overdue recent awarding of medals for the troops who fought it!!! A good showing by our Irish brothers! (Y)

Thanks for the chuck Mate. It does make a difference for our lads to get the recognition they deserve. Not to take away from the amazing achievements at Rorkes drift but if you compare the two battles and the loses at both on the defenders side vs the attackers and lengths of each Battle respectively then it' easy to see that our lads got robbed when it came to recognition. The defenders at Rorkes drift were awarded eleven VC's and five DCM's after loses of 17 troops while the defenders of Jadotville lost no one and were awarded??? Nothing. Except abuse and scorn for being "cowards" despite holding ou to the last round and running out of water and rations. Despite this the lads his bayonets and grenades in their kit when capture and would have gladly fought on. Only now after intense pressure has the Irish State vindicated their CO's action in saving their lives.Still no medals awarded.

NO ONE who's placed in such straights should have to endure such a battle and with such excellent outcomes and receive no accolades for it, and to be treated as if it didn't happen, either your men nor mine!! And if that's not enough...the bloody UN is simply a joke!!

I'm not sure I want to ask this, but how many did they buy?

Sounds similar to here in New Zealand. Generally each Bn will get one live bomb each a year and one per DFSW Commanders course for use on the final tactical exercise/testing. Every so often the Bde Commander may pluck one or two out of thin air to be fired on a key activity.
