In a tragic incident India's First Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) lost his life in a MI-17V5 chopper crash at Coonoor, Tamil Nadu District along with his wife & 11 other Air Force & Army personnel. One survivor pilot group captain Varun Singh is still alive in critical condition.
On December 13, 2021, another (second) successful test of a supersonic SMART torpedo missile with a range of 600 km was carried out in India.
The missile, developed by the Indian Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), was launched from the Wheeler missile range, located on the island of the same name off the coast of the Indian state of Orissa in the Bay of Bengal. It is reported that at the designed point, the torpedo successfully separated from the carrier and descended on a braking parachute.
SANT (stand-off anti-tank) missile was tested from an Indian Mi-35. This is a NLOS-ATGM with both IR & MMW-guidance versions and a 15-20km range. Could be integrated on both HAL LCH & AH-64E(I) Apache Guardian.
The Indian state Defense Research and Development Organization conducted the fourth successful flight test of the prototype of the first Indian long-range air-to-air missile with a solid-propellant hypersonic air jet engine, developed under the Indian-Russian Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) program on December 16, 2021.
The test was carried out at the Chandipur test site (Orissa). The rocket was launched from a ground-based launcher, reached a great height and speed, where the scramjet was operated. The rocket has reached the target Mach number. The trajectory of the missile was successfully tracked by telemetry before landing.
On December 19, the second destroyer of the new project 15B, built by the Indian state shipbuilding company Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) in Mumbai for the Indian Navy, went out for the first sea trials at sea, and is the second in a series of four ships under construction there.
