Pro-Iranian account leaks alleged U.S. intel on Israel's attack plans

U.S. officials are extremely concerned about a potentially major security breach after two alleged U.S. intelligence documents about Israel's preparations for an attack on Iran were published by a Telegram account affiliated with Iran.

Why it matters: The alleged leak comes as Israel completes weeks of preparations for a retaliation against Iran, which attacked Israel with a barrage of ballistic missiles on Oct. 1.

• The leak could be an attempt to disrupt the Israeli operation.
• The Pentagon and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence declined to comment on the leaked documents, but did not dispute their authenticity.

Driving the news: A Telegram channel by the name "Middle East Spectator" claimed on Friday that it had received documents from a source in the U.S. intelligence community about Israel's preparations for an attack on Iran.

• The Telegram channel routinely publishes pro-Iranian content, and the profile of the X account affiliated with the channel says it is located in Iran.
• The documents include an alleged Visual Intelligence report by the Department of Defense National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) distributed inside the U.S. intelligence community earlier this week.
• The authenticity of the documents has not been independently verified by Axios.

The alleged report details measures that have been carried out in recent days at several Israeli Air Force bases, including the transfer of advanced munitions which, according to the report, were intended for an attack on Iran.

Not much about this in English media so far, it's been reported in Hebrew sources mainly. Oh boy, I really hope that this is either fake or leaked disinformation, otherwise Israel needs to cease sharing anything sensitive with Washington until the operation happens...

So it seems like these are perhaps real. Apparently these documents are from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, and appear to be intelligence recorded on Israel's actions in the region for domestic recording.

Some people are suggesting any leaks could be coming from Deputy Assistant to the President and coordinator for intelligence and defense policy, Baher Bitar, given his previous pro-Palestinian activism:

Iran’s United Nations mission says that Lebanon’s Hezbollah terror group, armed and financed by Tehran, was behind a drone attack on the residence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“This action was taken by the Lebanese Hezbollah,” the mission says in response to a question about Iran’s role in the attack, according to the official IRNA news agency.

The Tehran-backed terror group, which fights Israel in Lebanon’s south, has not yet acknowledged the attack.

back in the early 2000s during operation enduring freedom, there was so much backstabbing and so many leaks in the intelligence community among american chiefs of station, case officers, and operations officers that many stopped sharing information with each other.

This war is going to forever change the rules of the game, if Israel keeps doing the things right:
1) the whole strategy of having proxies as expendable resource and a mean for not taking a direct responsibility is going to be severely compromised - what you are left with is a soft underbelly of shitty conventional military without the armor of your proxies
2) hiding behind the civilians and the civilian infrastructure has reached the point of rapid diminishing returns - the aftermath of this tactic is that you have literally nowhere to live
