Politics Former Philippines President Duterte in custody.

I guess the crazy virus has come to my neck of the woods. Interesting development.

Your country Jimbo. But I can see why your people were happy about him overwhelmingly until he had left office several years ago.

Yeah, thousands of mostly dealers and junkies young man got killed? So?

Im not sure what you mean, overwhelmingly happy? When he left the office of Presidency? Nope he had the highest trust and satisfaction rating out of our past presidents and some wanted him to change the constitution to remain in power.

So far the noise of his arrest is more about the legality aspect of it, havent seen any rallies yet. I hope it stays that way

If it remains calm, its a good thing... the opposition better make sure he gets prosecuted by the ICC or the next election will destroy them.

Badly worded from me, sorry. I mean that yeah he was very popular until he had to leave the office… either way if he did what the Philippines people asked him to do voting for him there had to be a good reason.

Yeah, the current politics now has more to do with it. He is still massively popular and even though he pushed for a more cordial relationship with China, he is massively popular with the armed forces.

This makes him a threat.

Now throwing him to the ICC is basically showing we cant prosecute our own, opposition is probably banking of a group of judges that are more liberal and frown upon populist leaders. But man if they still find no evidence to prosecute, they are screwed.

There's a video of him while being detained and he is correcting the arresting officer and lawyer on what are the charges and explaining to them the issues and impact of it on their careers.

"No need for all these escorts, I'm not running"

"No need to bring my family with me, I'm good. Just so you know taking me to the hague without a supreme court order, well that would be kidnapping on your part"

Hi sound bytes are always funny and he used to be a lawyer.

US influence? Pretty ironic they aren't in the ICC

Im guessing this is the first time the Hague will put a “war criminal” on trial that is more popular and loved by it citizenry than even their current leaders

The ICC won’t ever get Bibi or Putin, guess that’s the consolation prize to call it that.

Thats the thing, their governments wouldnt just hand them over. Our provided the gulfstream to even fly him to Europe.

Currently him and his family are telling the followers to Not protest, so the country wont be affected much nor give the current admin a reason to invoke marshall law.

How much improved was Phillipines after he cracked down on crime?

Depends if you are in the slums were most of his followers are… vastly safer. If you are in gated communities like the opposition… not much.

Government was far more efficient based on my personal experience. The scams on airports disappeared. And a S**t tone of infrastructure got made, this time outside of imperial manila.

Hell the largest airport under construction in the country thats in manila was approved under his administration.

If not for covid, the economy would have been far better off than it is now.
