Canadian Rangers from the Canadian Army and CC-130J Hercules aircrew from the #RCAF are working hard to support the #Pikangikum First Nation community.

This year, passersby may have noticed the Canadian Rangers’ signature red ball cap and matching red sweatshirt at the National War Memorial and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Since its beginning in 2007, the National Sentry Program has had #CAF personnel from all over Canada stand as sentries, guarding the Tomb. However, for the first time in the program’s history, this year the Canadian Rangers were included for one of the rotations.

Operation Nunalivut 2016 is taking place in and around Resolute Bay and Alert, Nunavut, from April 1 to 22, 2016.

Commanded by Joint Task Force (North) and involving more than 230 Canadian Armed Forces personnel from across Canada; Operation Nunalivut 16 incorporates soldiers from 2nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment, Royal Canadian Navy divers from Fleet Diving Unit Atlantic, and personnel from across the Royal Canadian Air Force, including Yellowknife-based 440 Transport Squadron. The Canadian Rangers have a junior division called the Junior Canadian Rangers. Open to all youth 12 to 18 years old, the program teaches traditional skills, life skills, Ranger skills, traditional culture and lifestyles in remote and isolated communities of the North. With traditional and life skills included in the curriculum, the community can infuse cultural norms, local language, regional skills, and social needs into the program. It all happens in a fun, friendly and safe environment! JCRs make a valuable contribution to their communities and become active, responsible citizens. April 14, 2010 – A CC-177 Globemaster III heavy airlifter from 429 Transport Squadron lands for the first time at Canadian Forces Station Alert, Nunavut, on a gravel, snow-packed, semi-prepared runway.

New C-19 rifles have been delivered to Canadian Rangers participating in Operation NANOOK. The Rangers will have the opportunity to test the rifles in the harsh and challenging northern climate and provide feedback. Following testing, and any necessary design amendments, the new C-19 rifles will be phased into use for all Canadian Rangers between 2016 and 2019. #StrongProudReady
