Must be the higher the rank the higher the position especially where water is concerned... Pte/LCpl - prone submersed "I don't know if I'm in dead ground", Cpl - Kneeling feeling the water oozing into his boots "I'm pretty sure I'm in dead ground", Sgt - semi crouched and disgruntled he left his brew mug behind "I'm in enough dead ground that I'm not getting wet".
Or I'm guessing as possibly as the only spare bloke he drew the short straw and got tasked to be the model for some PR images.
