Strong Europe Tank Challenge 2018: Offensive

During the first day, the Ukrainian tank platoon executed the offensive task and had to accomplish a range of manoeuvres.

This day was not successful for our team: tactical actions got the highest mark; meanwhile, firing task was failed due to technical problems. The result was 208 points. There are 12 more phases to improve the situation.

Last year T-64BW had 329 points.

Despite saber rattling from Kremlin Ukrainian troops continue to methodically destroy Russian fortifications around Horlyvka. Unfortunately, the video is only on Facebook so far:

Couple of things jump to mind. Firstly, it appears that at least temporarily Ukrainians have an advantage in this sector in terms of intelligence gathering capabilities. The destroyed "bunkers" were spotted bu UAV when the Russian mortar team was unloading ammo and was conducting preparations to fire on Ukrainian positions. Secondly, it appears that the supply situation with ATGMs has improved drastically. Older models like 9K111 Fagot are no longer kept in reserve to counter possible Russian armor breakthroughs (with questionable effectiveness at that), but are used to destroy fortified positions with deadly accuracy and sparing the infantry the need to conduct risky search and destroy raids.

Remnants of Russian Orlan-10 UAV Tough to tell what happened to it. Ukrainians claimed that it crashed after Ukrainian EC team interfered with flight controls. I think that the batter pack caught fire again since Russians ran out of Israeli spares sometime ago.
