Nui Dat, South Vietnam. 1968-04. Troops of 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), on board helicopters of an American assault helicopter company at the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) Base. Some of the aircraft were piloted by Royal Australian Navy officers, who were integrated into the 135th Assault Helicopter Company, a US Army unit. Note the mounted machine gun at an observation post.

Nui Dat, South Vietnam. 1969-07. This tiny monkey was bought by engineers of the 1st Field Squadron, Royal Australian Engineers (RAE) while building a bridge in a remote part of the Phuoc Tuy Province. The mascot lies on the head of Trooper (Tpr) John Catterall of Drouin, Vic. Tpr Catterall is a member of B Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, which is providing protection for the engineers.

A217640 Corporal (Cpl) George Victor Perazic, of Queanbeyan, NSW, a member of the RAAF on active service in Vietnam, works with the Australian Army at the Taskforce Headquarters at Nui Dat. Cpl Perazic is inspecting a machine gun which had been captured from the Viet Cong (VC). The weapon is a Soviet built 7.62 mm light machine gun.

Troops of 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) wait for a huge US Chinook helicopter to leave the ground before returning to base after Operation Ulmarra. A21308 Sergeant (Sgt) Bruce Edward Gluyas, of Young, NSW, is the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) in charge of the RAAF communications centre, at the Task Force Headquarters at Nui Dat, holding his Owen Submachine Gun Mark 2/3. The night before the Headquarters had come under mortar fire, with one of the shells landing 50 yards from Sgt Gluyas's tent, but it did not explode.
