Sep 1966. Gunners from 101 Field Battery conducting a fire mission in support of Australian troops on an operation in Phuc Tuy Province firing north west over the Nui Dat (SAS Hill) feature. This 105mm L5 pack howitzer is the battery's B gun and the acting gun Sergeant was Bombardier Peter Prewett, who was later promoted to Sergeant and transferred to 103 Field Battery. Years afterwards he was appointed as the Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) of the Army. This gun pit at the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) base at Nui Dat was originally built by 105 Battery but was re-constructed by Bombardier Prewett and his hard working gun detachment. The entrance to the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) prisoner of war (PW) Compound, known as the 'Nui Dat Playboy club'. Note the barbed wire fence within the perimeter that has been mostly shrouded with canvas tarpaulins. The 1ATF sign (left) reads '1ATF PW Compound' and depicts a Kangaroo and Kiwi indicating that both Australian and New Zealand troops work here. The sign over the gate reads 'Club Members Only Nui Dat Exclusively for VC and NVA'.
November 1967. Queensland's Returned Services League (RSL) 'Girl in a Million', Katrina Chijoff standing in cleared area of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) base at Nui Dat. Katrina visited the base with her sister Lana as part of her world tour, won during the 'Girl in a Million' competition.
1970. The vehicle hangers informally known as Nui Dat Motors Ltd, housing some of the vehicles used by the 17th Construction Squadron. Visible are a half ton platform trailer, a 6x6 International transit (concrete) mixer, a 4x4 International GS truck with a water tank fitted on the tray and two International F2 6x6 dump trucks. The rear end of a GS Land Rover is also visible in the lower left corner. The sign hanging from the facia says NUI DAT MOTORS LTD Specialists in Caterpiller, Euclid, Austin Western, ? , Thorneycroft, LW18, Ford, International, Land Rover, Federal, Jeep, Mack, Cummins, Scammell, McCulloch.
