Some photos from the 1980s from when a photojournalist captured these images of KPNLF fighters. The KPNLF (Khmer People's National Liberation Front) was formed in 1979 after the Vietnamese invasion of Kampuchea.

Led by Son Sann the group clashed with the Vietnamese. Between 1984-85 the Vietnamese were able to decimate a large portion of KPNLF forces. However even after this the group still carried out operations until 1993 when the group was dissolved as a result of the Paris Peace Accords.

royalist(king norodom sihanouk),communist(kmer rouge),democarcy(free khmer,blue khmer,son sein) vs heng samrin(former khmer rouge communist pro soviet,vietnam) war
first war in the world royalist, communist is allied flight opposite communist!stranger war!

On December 25, 1978 Vietnam launched a military operation into Cambodia after a series of events that forced them to respond with military action.

Which ended the control of the Khmer Rouge over Cambodia, and ending the horrors the of the genocide which the world soon learned about. However these events eventually triggered a response from the Chinese which attempted to invade Vietnam, but failed in doing so.

It is interesting that these operations actually spanned nearly the same amount of time that the Soviets were in Afghanistan.
