In 1940/41 a total of 7,071 Colt Vickers M1915s were purchased by the UK to help re-equip their forces due to equipment losses during the Dunkirk evacuation.
In British Service; some Colt Vickers M1915s were issued to the Home Guard in their original US 30.06 calibre, while others were converted to British .303 for general issue, it is unknown exactly how many were converted.

Colonel Martha McSally earned her USAF pilot’s wings in 1991 after completing Undergraduate Pilot Training at Williams Air Force east of Phoenix. After graduation, she was assigned to Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas, as a First Assignment Instructor Pilot in the T-37 trainer. McSally went on to Lead-in Fighter Training in 1993.

McSally was one of the first seven women to complete fighter training pilot training. In January 1995 McSally became the first woman to fly a fighter aircraft in combat when she was deployed with the A-10 Thunderbolt II.

In 2004, McSally became the first woman to command a combat aviation squadron the next year she deployed in Afghanistan. During the deployment, McSally had her first opportunity to employ weapons in combat. In 2006 she was awarded the David C. Schilling Award, given by the Air Force Association “for the most outstanding contribution in the field of flight.” After 22 years of service, McSally retired with 1500 hours in the A-10.
