Very rare gun -2S34 Chosta. Armament - automatic mortar 2A80-1 120 mm. it combines a construction typical of a howitzer equipped with an automatic loader, but firing mortar ammunition from a threadless barrel. 2A-80-1 are also used e.g. in the Arctic Magnolia artillery system on the DT-30 or 2S31 Wena chassis based on the BMP-3.
Chosta uses a modified 2S1 turret and chassis, but was also equipped with a much more modern Malachit fire control system, which allows the use of laser-guided Kitolov-2M ammunition, and changes in the observation and communication system. Interestingly, the 2S34 Chost can be powered by both special ammunition developed for this artillery system as well as 120 mm mortar shells. The range of fire with the use of mortar ammunition exceeds 7 km, while the special ammunition allows it to reach a range of 14 km.
