Police Turkish National Police

Generally the house raids would occur 2x Special Operation Teams (PÖH) which includes 5 officers per team, one is to sweep into the compound and the other one is to provide areal security and supoort the other units. The photos are taken at least three different zones of Ankara, the only one I would consider to use large amount of personal is Gipsy slums, the people are generally OK but the area itsef is pretty disorganized and you will never now what to face with on these narrow streets.

Its a general fact that Turkish Police is oftenly using its special operations branch in day-to-day activities which regular service officers have proper training and equipmnet to handle as well like the house raids on local violeance complaints and on the ordinary checkpoints of the roads and city squares. I assume thats the main reason the amount of the branch is became almost more than 20.000 personnel. But you know what they say, it's better to have, and not need, than to need, and not have.

Hi @DENO,

I wanted to ask, your original post starting this thread showing the new uniforms, when did they come in as standard issue? I am currently doing some research regarding Turkish Police and Coast Guards in 2015 (airport areas and the water crossing into Greece) and wondered if your images were also correct for this date.
Thank you

Special Operations Departmant, Underwater Group Command operators posing on a exercise in 2019.

Thre's clearly no such a thing as "Underwater Group Command". Underwater assault course with closed circuit rebreathers is available for all of the Police Special Operation Department officers (not operators) if they want to take after completing the basic CMAS scuba diving course. It's like the other side qualifications you can take as PÖH such as parachute free-fall training and advanced marksmanship & hostage rescue training on transportation vehicles (busses, aircrafts and boats et. all..). Some of these trainings can be mandatory for some certain positions in the Police Special Operations Department but not for all special operation teams and officers.

Actually, their name in Turkish is; " Özel Harekat Başkanlığı Taktik Su Altı Grup Amirliği ". But, I wrote "Underwater Group Command" in English to make it easier to understand for all ppl; Yes, I could use Supervisor or Diver but, they're belonging to the Special Forces Departmant of Police, with those equipments and so, I want to use "operator" instead "diver, supervisor" I'll heed your warning, thank you. ( Also, you are here so, I want to ask you one more question; Are these polices trained by Underwater Offence unit? (I've seen some soldiers of different branches has training by SAT personnels for "Frogman" education.) or are they being trained by other divers in the EGM?

The military meaning of "operator" is not related to the equipment which is being used and used as a representation of the tactics and mentality being adopted and deployed by some certain special mission units . Originally therm is only used for Delta Force members by official sources. But nowadays it's highly misused for special mission units in general which is not correct.

And also Police Speical Operations (PÖH) ise a Special Opertaion Force (SOF) but not a pure SF unit.. There are some groups which posses SF capabilities among them but not the entire department.

About the trainers I can't say. They are both using military and civilian trainers but not necessarily the SAT. Even in the Armed Forces each SF unit has it's own diving training center and trainers which they train their own personel without the assitance of Navy SF (SAT).

Photos of the police acivities and their special tasks to support the precautions taking against the COVID-19 pandemic taken from the different regions of Turkey. These can be summarized as:

-Checking on the body heat of the people moving on inter-city highways, checking out the vehicles for any suspected materials and taking their ID to see they have permit to travel between the cities (currently travelling btw cities are temporarily forbidden to decrease the spread unless the traveller has a valid excuse and took permit from the local administration) and to be sure they are not more than two person per car.

-Managing the public crowd in the cities, being sure everybody follows to keep their personal distance from others an having medical masks to visit the government buildings, markets and hospitals. Police also has right to warn and/or take criminal action against the persons under 20 or over 65 years old if they see them outside who are temporarily being forbidden to go outside as the pandemic rate increases.

-Providing the basic needs to the people over 65 or under 20 ages who are living without any person who can go outside to take care of their needs. These needs can be summarized as paying their bills on behaf of them and getting their basic necessities (food, cleaning products and medicine et all.) and paychecks to their homes.

Turkish Police regulates the general safety regulation which weapons are not cocked during the patrol duties or at the checkpoints. Therefore they mostly disable safety to cock the gun faster when S**t hits the fan. Just same as the IDF doctrine, but they even do not load their magazines to the guns until the firefights occur. And check out that trigger discipline which clearly shows she knows what she is doing.

And also clerk job or not each police officer receives minimum amount of knowledge and training with the weaponry issued by the Police in general during target training, which includes MP5, AK, G3 and M16. And also you have to serve as anti-riot police at least first 2 years in the force to familiarize the heat, muscle force and weapons before assigning the department you wanted.
