Politics The future of European defence strategy & manufacturing

But toned down export versions (not particularly aircrafts…thinking about German U212 subs for example) aren’t really a new thing, are they?
How are the Type 212 designs toned down for export?

Both the A and CD are available for export and optionally in nation specific variants. If a country wishes to use different components because it benefits their national industry that's their decision, not the effects of any export restriction by the German government.

Senop, a manufacturer of among others night vision equipment, will build another factory in Finland, ready by 26 autumn.

It would be interesting to collect these kind of news here.

Senop, a manufacturer of night vision devices, is building a new factory in Jyväskylä – already the second giant investment in Seppälänkangas

Real estate development company Jykia and defense and security company Senop have signed a preliminary agreement to start planning a new production facility.

The total investment in the facility is approximately ten million euros.

Construction of the approximately 3,000 square meter production facility will begin this autumn. The new facilities are scheduled to be put into use in autumn 2026.

Senop's head office is located in Kangasala, but it also has operations in Tampere, Oulu and Lievestuori in Laukaa.

Jykia's CEO Seija Takanen says that Senop will leave Laukaa and move production to Jyväskylä.

According to Takanen, it is important for the region that jobs are preserved. In addition, new jobs will be created in Jyväskylä as the company's production increases.

According to Takanen, the actual investment decision will be made after the contract calculation. He estimates that it could happen after the summer holidays.

Jykia is currently building new production facilities in Seppälänkangas for Nammo Lapua.

The factory, which manufactures artillery shells, is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.

According to Takanen, it is possible that Seppälänkangas will become the center of Jyväskylä's defense industry.

VDL Nedcar, part of the larger VDL industrial concern, a factory which license produced cars for Volvo, Mitsubishi, BMW and Mini until the factory ran out of orders in late 2024, will be producing drones and other military equipment for the Dutch MoD. Production is expected to be up and running by the end of the year.

It's an opinion piece, likely coming from year old rumours that British navy denied

"Why no more buy. "

If you buy a plane, you're married to it for decades. Potential that the country that produces your spares and software ends up as an enemy, is not acceptable risk.
"Why no more think critical"

We've already sold watered down M1 Abrams 120mm sabot's without depleted Uranium to the non NATO nation owners of the M1, with the exceptions to major non NATO allies. Just for this exact purpose.

Eh no it's because they don't want the DU package from falling into Russian hands so they can study it.

Not because previous administration feared that the mighty expeditionary superpower of Kuwait was going to invade the US mainland.

I'm not sorry, but I don't allow myself to be tricked into fallacy arguments. Good day.

European defence needs many drones but it also needs the big expensive assets like ISTAR and strategic nukes.

This must be the frame in which the new drone army operates.

Able to hit any opponent very deep and very hard.

Anti satellite weapons must also come to the table as well as naval means to stop any adversaries naval movements in case of attack.

An attack on the EU must mean immediate and wide spread massive retaliation crippling the civil and military life of the adversary instantly.

Facts on the ground.

Work on that.

Very great Trump aircraft with restricted use? And direct links to pray for me Putin?

Another point where we could/must do our own things with Airbus planes thanks to Donald Dumb.

Chuckled at this part on 33 min mark. (talking about export market of naval arms, where US is a minor player)
"leaving European military shipyards as the de facto default option for a range of systems types. One might suggest this kind of production capacity might potentially be useful if some hypothetical superpower ever found itself lcoked in a naval building race against a ship building juggernaut like China. But what are the odds of that happening"

Can you curb your TDS/USA derangements and be courteous and civil? Or shall we be allowed to insult your nations and it's leaders too?

FGM (MSM Group) and Instalaza will expand their ammunition production capacity in Spain with new factories to be installed in former Spanish Army ammunition maintenance and storage facilities.

FMG at old Vadollano Ammo Depot (Linares, Jaen):

Instalaza at old Cadrete Ammo Depot (María de Huerva, Zaragoza), with works started last january:

FMG produces heavy and light artillery shells, mortar and tank ammunition. Instalaza produces rocket launched grenades (HE, Frag and AT), mortar ammunition and hand grenades.

Basically the "rearming of Europe" will be, for the most part refurbishing old stuff, applying a new coat of paint and calling it new.

Some country will "rearm" by having new gear delivered, which was ordered and purchased way before the call for "rearmament", and will pass it as the effective result of that rearmament policies.

And a very few number will actually invest in an actual program.

Though the issue of ammunition manufacturing can be solved the issue caused by the lack of manpower is a whole other thing.
Reinstating military service is getting more and more popular, though it already was for many years before, to the point politicians are starting to talk about it, or at least making allusions. Civilians are, for the most part, in favor of it, however re-starting such program will be costly in both time and money due to the lack of infrastructures.

An other issue is related to the funding of such programs, and that's where there will be a lot of resistance from the people. Especially when politicians in favor of such programs say "we don't exclude using bank savings to finance this project".

Go ahead I have no problem with that. If we sold you weapons worth billions and then hej but you can only use it if we want to.

Or Russia go ahead and attack them like Trump said.

You would be very welcome to criticise that.

I mean it for real after this demasking from the US side, Europe should develop as many systems as possible on its own we have enough electronic companies over here to build our own ISTAR net.

Massive US weapons sale losses as a reminder for the future.

The ones not being civil is the out of control inept US government.

No, wrong answer. I'm talking about civil discourse. Without it, it makes your arguments rather petty with a preformed confirmation bias which brings your integrity into question.

What nation are you from? And would you like it if an American insulted your elected leaders? If the answer is no, then you have issues with integrity because you'd now be a hypocrite with double standards. If the answer is yes, well that is a boundary thing and you have no right to expect the same with others.

I'm just asking you to curb your insults and to remain civil and not be rude to the Americans, please.
