Politics Syrian Civil War

- Don’t expect any anti-Turkish statements made by the Polish government, as Poland has been getting on with Turkey very well for the last 300 years. It’s not going to happen. Turkey showed a lot of support for the Polish independence in the 18th and the 19th century and everybody knows it in Poland. The next thing is, the current Polish government is trying to transform Poland into a light catholic version of the sultanate, so harming the sultan will not suit them.
Poland is sending help to the Greek border in an act of support for Greece. Actions speak louder than words and Poland has definitely picked a side.

I'm not sure why the EU would want to reward this behavior?

Also something to consider is, Putin plays the game, because Erdo has no other options. No one meets with Tony Soprano because they want to.
Putin tries to convince Erdo that the latter is running out of friends, so hanging out with Putin may be the only option.

Not sure about that, at least I haven't seen any coverage from any other news agency.

On the other hand, there is that:

And also that:

Yes, that was of couse noticed too in Russian sources (non official) instantly.
Being official would be extremely counterproductive, as it would be too much for Erdo. The official channels were silenced.

As far as I can see, this is shaping up as another utter failure for Erdogan. He can ship as many people as he considers undesirables to the Greek border as he wants. The border is closed. Mitsodakis took firm action, the Greek people are united behind him and it appears that the EU is now in full support of Greece. I guess Erdo can go cry to Putin over this too, if he wants.

I have to say all this Idlib conflict and Putin-Erdogan meeting was not that widely discussed in national news as it may seem from outside Russia. It was portrayed like a regular thing with may be some disagreements by still. Official sources just doing their official job, and Russian officials were absolutely calm during this events. Just like - not a big deal, some minor escalation.

Also one remark regarding unofficial sources - ANNA news channel is absolute unknown to general Russian public, but you must to say they are the best reporters in Syria since the beginning of the conflict. I think it is because they too military-related (and that is why they are great!). Here in Russia we have a plenty of unofficial and opposition media, though nation-wide news channels are official ones.

There's an official video with a narrator's comment.

A long story short: the tsar made the sultan wait for 2 minutes before he entered the room. The sultan got bored of waiting while standing and decided to sit next to the famous clock.

Poland is trying to protect the external EU border against anybody rather than against a specific threat. Also, as I pointed out, we try to become relevant and shape up the EU.

Macron visited Poland a couple of weeks ago and tried to improve the Polish-French relations. He persuaded Poland to buy some French technology, like nuclear power plants, and wanted Poland to send some troops to some #shitholeCountries in the Sahel. Probably, he meant Niger or Mali or both.

Furthermore, unofficially, he tried to build a French-Polish alliance in the EU that would be against Germany. He is just scared of Germany being too influential after the UK left the EU. AFAIK, the Polish government is not very much interested in forming any anti-German alliance within the EU. Harming our the biggest ecomomic partner would not do any good to Poland. Apart from that, the last thing Poland needs is a possible rise of AfD and SPD in Germany.

These "pantsir" shots shown at the beginning of the video are old news.

Was a Turkish convoy hit in Syria today? I've seen several tweets, but I take everything I see on Twitter with a grain of salt. If true, sounds like heavy casualties. 79 KIA.

Apparently the attack was inside Turkey.

A Polish guy twatted a message about how the tsar humiliated the sultan.
First of all, there’s the Catherine's the Great bust in the room. She was the Russian emperor, who took Crimea and and Moldavia from the Ottoman Empire. She looks at Erdogan.
The next detail is the clock titled “the Balkan crossing”. It was made to commemorate the successful Russian campaign against the Ottoman Empire in 1877-1878.

That’s how Putin plays the game.

The conversation between the presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the Kremlin hall under the bronze clock "Crossing the Balkans" is a coincidence, explained the press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov. He is quoted by the "Ascension" publication.

According to him, the clock with the sculptural composition has been in the Kremlin hall, where negotiations took place, for at least 20 years.

Peskov is known for his ability for lying. He's able to lie faster than he's able to think (a Polish saying @TM).
