Nope, this is Assad's own making. If SAA didn't disintegrate along the sectarian lines, this war would have been over by now. However, once again I have to say that Arab states with a few exceptions are nothing more territories, there are tribal identities, but allegiances to the states are weak to non-existent. All of the Arab states have artificial borders drawn by the British and French colonial overlords. Now, what can loosely be called a Syrian territory is roamed by roving bands with allegiances only to the highest bidder. I have no idea how and when this could end since all of the players in the game have no common denominator and outright hate each other, yet no a single faction appear to be able to prevail over the rest.
