I would definitely oppose that. Erdo knew what he was getting into, when he forced himself into Syria. Turkey has enough assets to create their own "no fly zone" if they wanted to.

At least somebody there is trying to calm things down.
There are plenty of Russian tourists in Turkey and if mass hysteria not controlled they can become victims of a hot head terrorist attack, which will be very bad for Turkish economy.
Yes, I am quite sure that calming the things down is reason....

I must say, the thermal image attack from drone strike by turkey forces against Assad forces and precision targeting almost at par with the US, truly Turkey really becoming the force to be reckon with..

The meeting was called "following a request by Turkey", NATO said in a statement

Hum... Turkey invades a country, claims it is for "X" reason, refuses to leave invaded regions, threatens to escalate the violence, actually escalates the violence, actively support terrorist groups, sets "observation posts" deep inside Syria, etc...

Well, Turkey surely knew invading a foreign country, currently torn apart by a protracted civil war, would, eventually, represent a threat to the life of its soldiers.

05:50 Russia's defense ministry has claimed that Turkish military did not inform them about the presence of Turkish soldiers in that area of Idlib, according to Russia media. Any troops present were "terrorists," they said.

"Turkish soldiers who were in the battle formations of terrorist groups came under the fire of Syrian troops," the defense ministry said in a statement.

They also denied that Russian war planes had been involved in the air strikes that killed Turkish troops.

Turkey using refugees as a form of pressure tool against the EU, again.

Well well well. Many people have tried to invade or dismember Mother Russia before. A quick look at History books will make you understand how that worked out for them.

And how is this relevant with Syria? "Mother" Russia may view this country as its ownership, but just like Venezuela or Ukraine, it is not. Or if you prefer History - Afghanistan (1979-1989) Finland (1939-1940), Japan (1904-1905), etc. etc.

Turkey pounded relentlessly Assad forces and its allies in retaliation of 33 Turkish soldiers killed.

I was actually responding to the threats made on ErdoTV last night by a commentator. Read the thread carefully and many thanks for the History lesson but neither the Finns during the Winter war, or the Afghan or Japanese actually dismantled Russia.

Not bad, still none of this damage control vids would be necessary if they established proper air defense. They should learn their lesson. However, shame they are shifting the blame for airstrikes on assad to save the relationship with russia. Would love to see some shooting stars in the night Syrian sky.

“We call on NATO to [start] consultations. This is not [an attack] on Turkey only, it is an attack on the international community. A common reaction is needed. The attack was also against NATO,” AKP spokesman Omer Celik told Turkish media on Thursday.

Hum... no?

Everybody, or not far from it, told you not to do it. You did it anyway.

It seems I saw this in videos before the strike on turkish-jihadi headquarters.

Nato charter:

Article 1

The Parties undertake, as set forth in the Charter of the United Nations, to settle any international dispute in which they may be involved by peaceful means in such a manner that international peace and security and justice are not endangered, and to refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force in any manner inconsistent with the purposes of the United Nations.

Article 5

The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.

Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security .

Article 6 1

For the purpose of Article 5, an armed attack on one or more of the Parties is deemed to include an armed attack:

  • on the territory of any of the Parties in Europe or North America, on the Algerian Departments of France 2, on the territory of Turkey or on the Islands under the jurisdiction of any of the Parties in the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer;
  • on the forces, vessels, or aircraft of any of the Parties, when in or over these territories or any other area in Europe in which occupation forces of any of the Parties were stationed on the date when the Treaty entered into force or the Mediterranean Sea or the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer.

don't put your fingers in the plug - don't put your fingers near the blade - it will hurt if you do - you wont have any fingers for the next 50 years - ok do it your way......

I see no reason to consult with NATO, this is not a NATO operation.

Regarding Russia's actual interest, if the Revolution in Syria had been successful, this would probably have resulted in a government less hostile to Israel. In the ongoing 'war' between USA and Russia, I suspect Russia finds it better to have the Israel/Arab world conflict alive, to keep USA unpopular in that part of the world. Just my take.

Back to Turkey - why exactly did they go in, it wasnt humanitarian, its a land grab, keep it for 50 years, and then make it independent....

And their actual deployment seems a little half assed, they have put thousands of troops in there, without a CAP or AA systems? Did they think this was an exercise? This is the country next door, and they cant maintain a CAP? UK sailed 8000 miles and had a CAP - 40 years ago.

Moscow offers condolences to Ankara in connection with the death of the Turkish military in Syria - Lavrov.

At the same time Russia’s Black Sea Fleet was cited by the Interfax news agency on Friday as saying it was sending two warships equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles to waters off the Syrian coast.

This is an article 4 consult. Not 5.
Article 4

The Parties will consult together whenever, in the opinion of any of them, the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the Parties is threatened.

Really? I cant see much sympathy - you can have your consultation, Private Jones will be attending for us....

Lol @ ukrainians and nemipuka in the thread.

While Turkish army is strong enough, seems they spent to much time in anti-Kurds counter-insurgents operations and turned out not to be ready for the real full-scale war.
