Politics Syrian Civil War

It is, indeed, and perhaps, unnecessary.

But humiliating that leader in such a way can have an interesting psychological impact. Showing ISIS fighters and their leaders as cowards is not that far from the truth in the end: using human shields, using kids as suicide bombers, hiding among refugees, dressing as women to sneak out, hitting soft targets, using and hiding behind the overbearing sensitivity of the West to paint themselves as victims, etc...

Unseemly in a formal and official speech? Maybe, but it is not as if these individuals deserved anything else.

WaPo...

Austere religious scholar... "ok so, we have that guy who died... saying he was a terrorist would be offensive and islamophobic... let's go with austere religious scholar".. WTF?!

Also, during the press conference:
CNN: yeah but Obama announced bin Laden's death only 3 minutes after it happened.
CNBC: Trump thanked Russia first.

Must. Twist. News. Orange. Man. Bad.

Good riddance, and congratulations to the American forces involved.
I find it very useful. Especially for his followers to hear or some teenager somewhere in the world who might consider idolizing him.

Would you still find it useful if his followers got so pumped-up by all that crowing that they resolve to behead the next American they can find in order to "exact revenge"?

I think this difference of opinion shows the very different views we hold.

Us believes in retribution, deterrence and good or bad punishment.

I’m more with muck, mainly as I doubt said teenager will listen to trump, and as muck says, more likely to tip said youth into the camp of kill an American, which generally includes all westerners.

They already want to do that, don't you think? They might as well know how he died as a whimpering coward and the next guy in line will be next.

Look, morally I couldn't care less.

In terms of risk assessment, however, my genuine opinion is this: Most of those subhumans who've been making our countries unsafe probably didn't even know Al Baghdadi. Under different circumstances, I reckon, they would've had done what Al Quaeda did in the wake of Bin Ladin's death: Pretend they didn't need to care about it, pretend his death didn't matter.

But now they've been given plenty of reason to care. Now it matters.

Yup, Nancy is pissed...

Congratulations to CIA and the Task Force for this sucksess. Sad to see Trump taking the credit for this great job and giving it to Russia just like that.

Good Lord, did any of you even listen to 48 minute press conference? He spent a moment thanking Russia, Turkey, Iraq and the Kurds. He DID NOT give credit to Russia. LOL! That is the most ridiculous comment in this whole thread. The Russians were informed that US aircraft would be flying through airspace they controlled under the rules of the deconfliction agreement.

He did make many comments about how incredibly the US force performed as he was watching the mission in real time. All credit was given to the military and intelligence assets involved in the raid.

Furthermore, loads of intelligence was exploited at the site. I wouldn't be surprised if a few more d-bags get smoked soon.

In the press conference, Trump was asked if Pelosi was notified beforehand. He said no, he was concerned about leaks and OPSEC for a risky mission. I agree with that.

The West must always remain vigilant. But it's also useful for scumbags to know what their fate will be and that it won't be pretty.

That made me wonder, did she have to be notified anyway?

No requirement for that. In normal times, leaders would be notified as a courtesy. But these are not normal times and I honestly question the patriotism and trustworthiness of the current Dem leadership.

That's what I was thinking, usually these operations are shrouded with a decent level of secrecy. I don't remember seeing any "non essential" individuals in the situation room during Neptune Spear.

Like Obama did for Bin Laden, you mean?
The fact is, both were / are entitled to claiming at least some credit. A success like this is also the result of political decisions, at least some of which had to be correct.

Another one bites the dust:
