ROKS Chungnam (FFG-828) was recently photographed at Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan undergoing finishing touches prior to its scheduled launch in late April.
The Chungnam-class frigate (FFG-III) class is a larger and improved successor to the preceding classes of Incheon-class frigate (FFG-I) and Daegu-class frigate (FFG-II).
Its most noticeable improvement is the fixed AESA multi-function radar developed by Hanwha Systems which replaces SPS-550K AESA radar found on Incheon and Daegu-class frigates. It is also 500 tons larger and 7 meters longer than the Daegu-class frigate.
A total of 6x Chungnam-class frigates will be built to fully phase out Republic of Korea Navy’s remaining obsolete Pohang-class corvettes and Ulsan-class frigates. It will then be succeeded by FFX Batch-IV program.

* (in Korean) hey, Doyun, you should tell Jack the joke that doesn't make us laugh anymore...mil-smile11

* Imagine, Jack, that one man says to another: "the news says that in Egypt they found the oldest hieroglyphic in the world" and the other answers: "it can't be! is it still freezing?"

Soldier from behind, with an incredulous look: Jesus Christ, and that's the joke they laugh at so much? mil-smile04
