Modernization of wz77 Dana SpGH

"Due to delays in the implementation of the program of acquiring squadron fire modules (DMO) 155 mm self-propelled howitzers on a wheeled chassis of AHS Kryl, it became necessary to keep the 152 mm gun howitzers wz. 77 Dana. In the years 2003-2010, 108 vehicles were modified to the Dana-T version. Its main goal was to install ZZKO Topaz elements and a new communication system. After a few years, their repairs with further modifications began, after which the cannon-howitzers will receive a new designation Dana-M. By the end of 2021, the army received the first three vehicles modified in this way, and this year it is planned to sign a contract for a serial modification."

"modification work included: installation of a new driver's and commander's cabin with 4 large bulletproof windows, installation of 3 cameras and a monitor displaying the image from them for the driver, installation of a new air conditioning and heating system, modification of the engine to improve its performance, modification of the gearbox gears (adding a semi-automatic, sequential gearshift system, changes in the following systems: steering, electric (including APU assembly) and hydraulic (including the time of lowering and raising the supports 3 times reduced), front axle suspension reinforcement, installation of the central air pressure regulation system in tires, adding an ABS system, or finally replacing tubeless tires with RUNFLAT inserts."

Doesn't Poland need like a 1000 of these (heavy+light) Borsuks? What is the production capacity?

Piorun and Grom are compare SA7,14,16,18 or stinger-A,B,C or HN-5,5A,QW-2,3 or Mistral?

The Grom is a better or comparable at worst with the SA18. The Stinger is far less advanced.

Georgia bought 100 Groms and 30 launchers in the 2000s. During the Russo-Georgian War in 2008, the Georgians fired 12 Groms, hitting 9 Russian planes and helicopters. Most of them were shot down. It gives you the effectiveness of 75%.

Based on the feedback from the Russo-Georgian War, the Grom-M was developed and it was renamed as Piorun after some time.
It's a much better system, with a much bigger warhead, range, ceiling, guidance system and sensors. It's the most advanced MANPAD used by any NATO army.

Both the Grom and the Piorun are protected from an unathorised use. I cannot mention any foreign MANPAD that has got this feature.

Yes, but last year MON (DOD) said that their plan is to receive 14 NBWP Borsuk to 2023 (equivalent of mech company) and 588 NBWP(IFV) versions to 2035, so ~50 per year. There is chance that they can do more or built another plant to build more of them. Also its important to point out it still didn't pass national tests and its supposed to happen in next month or so, then we should receive more info.

"However, this number almost certainly did not include numerous specialist vehicles based on its chassis, such as reconnaissance combat vehicles, command vehicles or recovery vehicles. This means an average mass production rate of approx. 50 vehicles per year in the IFV version alone."

Thanks,

I had read that a while back and forgot about it.

Off the immediate topic but have you heard anything further in the Mi-24 stress tests?

No, but apparently our delegation which went to see Abrams tanks had detour to also look at AH-1Z Vipers, i hope that they will select AH-64E but there is chance that we will get Vipers like Czechia.
The Apaches would probably be better because they can integrate with UAVs. I do not believe the Vipers have that capability at present

The AH-64 is the better aircraft IMHO, it still has a lot of room for upgrades and inclusion of new gear. The Viper is a great aircraft also however, it's a 1960s design and the airframe is maxed out with no room left for more avionics/upgrades. If it comes down to costs though I expect the Viper will get the nod

As a result of analyzes of materials provided by the PGZ-MIECZNIK Consortium in December 2021, the Polish Armed Forces preselected the preferred ship design and combat system, which will constitute the final configuration of three new frigates for the Polish Navy, acquired under the program pk. MIECZNIK (SWORDFISH). The proposals presented by German and British industrial partners were considered the most favorable. Difference between those two offers is <5%.
The consortium assumes that in the first half of March, B2B agreements regarding strategic cooperation will be clarified and concluded - agreements regulating, inter alia, principles of further cooperation and the model of program management. Considering the good of the ongoing negotiations, the final selection of the platform together with the ZSW will be made public after their completion.

The bad think is, the Polish MoD is going to buy some old ammunition from the 90s, while we need something like the DM-63. It's said that the more modern ammo is to be bought later.
