Polish MOD signed contract with PGZ to acquire 3 frigates codename "Miecznik" (could translate to two- Swordfish or Killer Whale/orca).
They said that first ship will launch in 4 yrs. MOD didn't specify anything else than they will be "best of the best, newest", they are to be build in Poland and we should get as much technology transfer as possible. Afaik we will probably sign contract with UK, Spain or Germany. More info about it here

There is a wide range of tonnage available from those potential vendors (3500-6000+ tonnes).

I wonder if they will consider a refit of Ślązak with a more potent weapons fit when they procure the missile/control suite for the new frigates?

I would love to see Ślązak with better anti-air system then current one(if someone is curious, its 4x GROM MANPAD). Tbh i don't remember how much space was left for VLS/other systems but it has nice sensor package already (SMART-S Mk 2 3D radar, STING-EO Mk 2 fire control radar and Mirador EO fire control/observation suite). Tryton + VLS would make it at least capable of shooting down anything else than practice targets.

I'm pretty sure they could drop a VLS in with ESSM or RAM and add RBS-15.

The way PiS is heli-dropping złotys, why not?

Question is for how long, there are rumors that they want to get new submarines, more CSAR/SAR/ASW AW-101 (from 4 to 8 and option to 12), Borsuk IFV, more Javelins for WOT, "Narew", ZSSW-30. Few days ago "Pegaz" program (vehicle for Special Forces) was cancelled because it didn't had "NATO Secret/Tajne" clause, and there is rumour that they will get JLTV. idk where they will find money to pay for all this stuff.

Oh and there is this last rumour, most ridiculous one that during visit to get Abrams deal done they were also checking out Cobra helicopters.

I remember rumour from 2019 that Poland will get M1A2, almost nobody believed :D

Well, they do need all of that stuff if they want to be more than a speed bump to Berlin but I cannot answer as to where the money will come from, though financing is cheap in the short term at least, and the EU spigots are still open.

Back of the napkin, I come up with 45-50 billion U.S. pretty quick for the minimum shopping list for new toys.

Regarding the Helos, there are marine and attack versions of the Blackhawk. I wonder why they don't pursue a large, inclusive contract to simplify logistics and provide jobs in Poland? They need ~100 units all told. It may be that global contracts preclude their assembly in Poland.

As for the M1A2 I never imagined they would drop 6 BILLION $!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess it ain't over until they are cruising the Polish plain.

Just a little update.
A Polish article says 3 frigates will be built in Poland and they will cost 10bn PLN ($2.6bn).

Guys lets get back to posting images in this thread. Polish procurement and it's various implications and reasonings are worthy of a separate discussion thread but not in a photo thread ;)

10-4. Maybe Eastern & Southern Military News?
About that, a grouping such as this produces a whole lot of cluttering. Due to the nationality of the members here and some countries producing more headlines than others, these threads are usually filled with news from only a few nations despite being dedicated to many more. Perhaps all countries with a bigger military or more active arms industry should have their dedicated threads, i.e. just like this one's for Poland?

Good points made in this opinion piece. With the possible unraveling of the coalition, one begins to consider if the purchase will actually materialize.

On July 27, Minister Blaszczak signed documents that formally begin the program of building 3 missile frigates under the Miecznik program at Stocznia Wojenna. As stated in the release of the Ministry of National Defense, this was the approval of the contract concluded between the Armament Inspectorate and the PGZ-Miecznik consortium, which includes Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa, PGZ-Stocznia Wojenna and the Remontowa Shipbuilding shipyard. The proposals of Navantia (F-110?), The German ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (MEKO A-200, or A-300) and the British Babcock with the Arrowhead 140 frigate have entered the phase of submitting conceptual designs.

F-110-Frigate-Navantia.webp

The second stage, which, according to the schedule, would start at the turn of 2021 and 2022 (i.e. in fact at the beginning of 2022) will be the selection of the best of the three proposals. Its implementation will allow for the transition to the design stage, during which the technical design of the frigate will be created. After its approval, it will be possible to start building the ship. The third and final stage, i.e. the construction of two serial units, is to take place only after the testing of the prototype unit is completed. The timeframe for the entire program assumed at the outset assumes that it will end in 2034, i.e. only then would the last ship be handed over to the contracting authority.

Without the knowledge of the exact contractual provisions, little is actually known. For now, the first phase of the program has started, i.e. the development of conceptual designs, i.e. the actual preparation of their bid designs by foreign partners. Therefore, we probably have to wait until the end of this year for further details.

If the Spanish submission includes Aegis, which it should, then that would be an excellent choice.

But as you said, way too early to tell.

MSPO-2021 will start soon so we will see a lot news.

HSW presented new version of SMG RAK 120mm (RAK mortar system on tracked chassis).

4. Premiere of Leopard 2PL M1 version.
More here: https://www.defence24.pl/mspo-2021-premiera-leoparda-2pl-m1
The Leopard 2 tank in the 2PL M1 version has been modified in relation to the 2 PL version in terms of:

-introduction of the additional "PIX" function, which allows the PERI R17 commander's observation device to be automatically set to the position of 06:00 or 12:00 in relation to the tank axis, regardless of the position of the turret;
-introducing the "FIRST / LAST" echo function for the gunner, allowing the gunner to fire a shot when the distance measurement is inconclusive;
-introduction of an additional, external battery charging socket on the rear plate of the armored hull;
-introducing the "COLD START" function for starting the vehicle in emergency situations (in combat conditions) without voltage drop for turret systems and, as a result, prevents their restart;
-Introduction of active cooling of the control electronics compartment of the "EWNA" guidance and stabilization system;
-Preparations for the installation of the thermal identification system for own troops "THERMAL BEACON".

Re: bolded part, does Poland manufacture 2S1 hulls from the ground up, or are these modifications, performed on existing vehicles?
At first, I had no doubts it was just a modified 2S1 Gvozdika hull, but according to this article it’s not.

“…HSW abandoned the use of the lower part of the body of the 122 mm self-propelled howitzer 2S1 Gvozdika (in Polish ”Goździk”; in NATO code M1974), and designed a new structure from scratch, which allows to increase the level of anti-mine protection.”

“The most visible change in the reference of the appearance of the mortar vehicle hull to the design of the prototype of the New Infantry Fighting Vehicle (NBPWP) BORSUK. It is worth emphasizing – the new, modified project is a complete departure from the 2S1 design – it is a chassis made from scratch at HSW.”
