Imperial Italy:
The
Soldato-class torpedo boat destroyer
Artigliere, commissioned into the Regia Marina in 1907, was a rather typical pre-war destroyer, with a rather small displacement (415 t full load), a top speed of 28.5 knots and an armament of four 76 mm (3-inch) guns and three 450 mm (17.7 inch) torpedo tubes.
It saw extensive action in the Italo-Turkish War, participating in the
Battle of Kunfida Bay and the
Battle of Prevesa, respectively in the Mediterranean and in the Red Sea. It also served in WWI, as part of the
III Squadriglia Cacciatorpediniere (3rd Destroyer Flotilla).
It was de-rated to torpedo boat in 1921 and decommissioned in 1923.
Protected cruiser
Calabria moored at Fremantle, Western Australia, November 1905. The Regioni-class protected cruiser
Calabria undertook no less than four circumnavigations of the globe, between 1897 and 1912. This picture was taken in November 1905, during its third voyage round the world.
