USN:
USNS Kingsport (T-AG 164) under way, 29 January 1963. The picture shows a 53-foot white plastic dome protecting a 30-foot stabilised parabolic antenna. This ship served as a surface-based station for tracking and communications for NASA's Project Syncom. Project Syncom's objective was to demonstrate the technology for synchronous orbit communication satellites. The first Syncom was launched on February 14, 1963.

Dédalo was formerly the World War II-era light aircraft carrier USS Cabot, which was acquired from the United States in the 1960s.

USS Cabot was laid down as Wilmington (CL-79), a Cleveland-class light cruiser, redesignated CV-28 on 2 June 1942, renamed Cabot on 23 June 1942 and converted while building.
