Just out of curiosity… I once heard having served in the Luxembourg Army is considered essential for anyone striving to hold a position even of minor prominence in the government apparatus; even one of your princesses, I can't remember her name, served for a while. Is that still the case, or has the public's perception changed?

Sorry muck, I had forgotten to answer your question. It is not that every civil servant needs to pass through the army to get a job with the government. But a few years back you needed to have three years of service with the army to be a Gendarme, a policemen, a customs officer, a corrections officer, a postman and a forest ranger. Nowadays this as been abolished. The police recruits undergo a "tactical basic training", in the Luxembourg Army barracks, but they have their separate buildings and their own cadre with only policemen serving as DIs.

Look at all those beloved FN FAL's I LOVE the old girls and of course my beloved L1A1 SLR!!!! (Y)

I loved the FAL! When I was doing basic training the selection process for a new service rifle had just started. So I got trained with the FAL but I also got to shoot the M16A2, The FAMAS, the Galil, and the AUG. FUNFUNFUNFUN!

A few days back and this afternoon. No need for explanations....
