Article India starts cultivating hing

"But now, scientists from the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) have planted hing saplings in Himachal Pradesh, in the hope that cultivation of the spice will become a common practice in India."

Holds off on buying Hing Shares.

I have no idea what this stuff even is, what is it used for, seasoning, fragrance?

I'll have to buy some and try it then. Lots of dishes that I like are based on fried onions as the primer. Thanks for the tip, mate.
At first, the smell can be overpowering, it should be powder type. if it becomes a lump try drying it and pound it to powder. Do share the picture when you cook a dish with it, cheers.
