A lot of misinformation going around, regarding an extensive retaliatory Pakistani bombing campaign in India, three Indian fighters having been shot down etc.

There does seem to be a continuation of Pakistani artillery fire.

I wonder if India and Pakistan managed to agree, through back-channels, to let the strike happen (for India) and for Pakistan to be able to run a PR victory to preserve its "honor".

Something along the line of: you get your revenge, but I get to say publicly you didn't by lying about it.

Oh great. A new war with 3 nuclear capable countries. Exactly what we needed.

Seems like, among the planes shot down, two may be a Mirage 200 and a Rafale.

A Su30MKI might have been shot down as well, but nothing to back it up so far.

On the night of May 7, the Indian army announced Operation Sindoor, aimed "against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan." The Indian army struck nine targets in Pakistan, Pakistani Kashmir, and Jammu state as part of Operation Sindoor. It is worth noting that it is difficult to publish up-to-date information on these battles, as both sides are using old photos and videos, which is difficult to say for sure. According to India, the strikes were not directed against Pakistani military facilities. Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif called India's actions an "act of war." The conflict between India and Pakistan, which has been going on for several decades, escalated again after the tragic incident on April 22 in the city of Pahalgam, where 26 people, most of them tourists, were killed in an attack by terrorists from the Lashkar-e-Taiba group. India blamed Pakistan for this, accusing it of involvement in the attack. In response, Pakistan denied the allegations and called for an independent investigation. Both sides have now begun fighting.

Just about every major (regional) power around the globe has a dense AD network these days. You need long range stand-off munitions, stealth aircraft or electronic warfare assets and preferably all three, and if not your air force is going to get chewed up in no time.

India does have some indigenous missiles, but either they're not all that great or mistakes were made in planning due to inexperience.

This is why any western attack starts with cruise missiles, onto the SAM and radar sites. Russia has different ways......

If they were using Israeli missiles then planning must have been really poor as Israel used those same missiles to smack Iran with zero aircraft losses.

The targets were right across the border, the Rampage missile has a range of over 150km. Could easily have launched well inside Indian airspace without ever getting within range of even the longest range Pakistani SAM.

I dismissed this as just Pakistani propaganda, but I guess not.

Pakistan went as high as 5 Indian planes shot down.

3 have been confirmed, and it seems to be the actual number.

There are two things that I find interesting however:
-3 hits, and three different planes.
-more "me wondering" than an actual interesting thing, but I wonder if the Mirage 2000 isn't in fact a Tejas.

PL15 bit found in India.

That's a long range air-to-air missile.

Is three planes a big loss? Can India sustain that loss? I do not know.

Also, how big was the overall engagement? 12 plane operation and they lost a quarter of the force? 120 planes and they lost a few percent?

Seeing as they attacked nine sites in two separate areas in a short amount of time I'd say at least two dozen for either cluster.

Though because (some of) the aircraft came down in India aircraft losses might also be from regular aircraft patrolling the airspace.
