On April 4, 2023, the Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic announced that the day before, the first AH-1Z Viper attack helicopter was formally accepted at the American company Bell Textron in Amarillo, Texas. In May this year it will be transferred to the 22nd Helicopter Base Biskajská in Náměšť nad Oslavou. In total, the Czech Republic will receive 20 H-1 family helicopters, i.e. 10 AH-1Z attack and 10 UH-1Y Venom multi-role helicopters. Of this fleet, 4 AH-1Zs and 8 UH-1Ys were ordered on December 12, 2019, while the remaining 6 AH-1Zs and 2 UH-1Ys are to be donated by the US government.

Place: Nepolisy
Main actors: 262nd Radio Engineering Battalion and 532nd Electronic Warfare Battalion
Means: radar RAT-31DL against means of electronic warfare
The task: to practice in conditions of electromagnetic interference.
These are the common denominators of the FADR GUARD exercise, which took place in mid-March this year.

Interference and deception

"Reaction to the effect of electronic warfare on our assets is one of the top exercises of the radio engineering battalion, where we emphasize the ability to withstand a potential enemy, but also on training the radar operator in these conditions," explains the main task of the exercise, deputy commander of the 262nd radio engineering battalion, Major Václav Macháček .
Radar technology determines the location of targets based on the transmission and reception of electromagnetic waves. It has several types of protection against interference, which can be used if necessary. However, nothing is predetermined and this is doubly true in electrical engineering. “You never know what the enemy will have, what type of jamming they will use, and whether the radar is even capable of responding. In order to verify everything, these exercises are being carried out in cooperation with the Opava electronic warfare battalion, when both sides will test their capabilities, and the technicians and operators will practice their previous experience in practice," adds Major Macháček.

The goal of the exercise itself was not particularly different from previous years, it was primarily about testing resistance to interference and practicing activities when using the means of electronic warfare by the adversary. Electronic warfare deals not only with the detection and evaluation of various types of signals to identify one's own forces and those of the enemy, but also with the averting of enemy threats. It is not only defense in the form of specific passive means, but also state-of-the-art technology that can limit the activity of the enemy under certain conditions. And it is precisely the situation when the adversary uses means of electronic warfare that was the subject of the FADR GUARD exercise.

Not the sharpest pics (yet), but since these are probably the first public pics of the Czech Viper in its whole glory, here it is :)

Two more Leopard 2A4 tanks arrived in Přáslavice. This is another part of the donation of 14 tanks and one recovery vehicle that the Czech Republic received from the Federal Republic of Germany for helping Ukraine. The first tank already passed military tests a month ago, so there is nothing to prevent the deployment of new units for training.
In addition to the aforementioned 14 tanks and one rescue vehicle, the delivery will also include an initial package of spare parts, ammunition and three-year service support from the supplier, which also includes the training of Czech soldiers. The Czech Republic received tanks from the Federal Republic of Germany as partial compensation for its assistance to Ukraine. The value of the gift is almost 4 billion CZK. In October 2022, representatives of the Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic signed a series of contracts related to the supply with German partners. It was a Memorandum of Understanding, an Implementation Agreement for training, an Administrative Arrangement and an Agreement on the Supply of Tanks.
