DAMUR, LEBANON: Syrian army troops leave their military post in the Lebanese coastal town of Damur, just south of Beirut, 22 September 2004. Syrian forces continued a limited pullback operation from Lebanon for the second consecutive day amid international pressure for a full withdrawal and an end to Damascus's interference in Lebanese affairs. Once the current pullout is complete, some 15,000 Syrian soldiers will continue to be stationed in neighboring Lebanon. The redeployment comes 28 years after Syria first sent in its forces after the outbreak of the 1975-1990 civil war. It was the latest in a series since 2001, which has seen the number of troops decrease from a high of 35,000 at the end of the war. Syria started redeploying about 3,000 troops in Lebanon, with most of them due to return home, according to a high-ranking Lebanese army official. Syrian soldiers leave one of their posts in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli 15 July 2003. The Syrian army late yesterday began to partially pull out of Lebanon, the fourth time such a redeployment has taken place in three years, Lebanese security services said. Less than 20,000 Syrian troops -- compared to more than 35,000 in 2000 -- are now stationed in Lebanon, after intervening during the civil war in Lebanon in 1976, one year after the war began. BEKAA VALLEY, LEBANON: Syrian soldiers patrol the Bekaa Valley in 1986. Israel attacked 16 April 2001 the Syrian army radar station at nearby Dahr al-Baydar, 45km east of Beirut, leaving at least one Syrian soldier dead. Multinational Force Lebanon - BRITFORLEB (British Forces).
One of the lesser known countries to be a part of the Multinational Force unlike the Americans, French or Italians or even the Lebanese Army. The British mostly played a smaller role while in Lebanon.

There isn't a whole lot of information or photos out there save for a few bits of photos that have circulated or various newsreels where you can often catch a glimpse of British troops. Unlike the other countries the British maintained a very small number of troops. The first deployment arrived in February of 1983.

There they were relieved by a unit of 115 troops which remained in country until the MNF would withdraw later in 1984. Unlike the rest of the MNF the British suffered no casualties during the operations. Though like their counterparts they also faced the same dangers of being attacked by one of the many factions fighting eachother.

After the Barracks Bombing the British would also evacuate alongside the rest of the MNF, when the mission replaced by UNIFIL which had been around longer.
