In a coordinated multilateral response to the hijacking of a 🇱🇰 Sri Lankan fishing vessel, the Indian Navy in collaboration with 🇸🇨 Seychelles Defence & Sri Lanka Navy successfully intercepted & rescued the hijacked vessel. Sri Lankan flagged multi-day fishing trawler Lorenzo Putha 04, 955 nm east of Mogadishu, Somalia 🇸🇴 hijacked by three pirates. Indian Navy deployed INS Sharda from Kochi & also tasked HALE Sea Guardian to locate & intercept the hijacked fishing vessel. Additionally, efficient operational coordination & Info Sharing through the Sri Lanka & Seychelles International Liaison Officers (ILOs) at IFC IOR, New Delhi resulted in the interception of the hijacked fishing vessel by SCGS Topaz in Seychelles EEZ on 29 Jan 24. The pirates surrendered to the Seychelles Coast Guard (SCG) & all six crew members are safe & vessel escorted to Mahe, Seychelles.

INS Sumitra Carries out 2nd Successful Anti Piracy Ops – Rescuing 19 Crew members & Vessel from Somali Pirates. Having thwarted the Piracy attempt on FV Iman, the warship has carried out another successful anti-piracy ops off the East Coast of 🇸🇴 Somalia, rescuing Fishing Vessel Al Naeemi and her Crew (19 Pakistani 🇵🇰 Nationals) from 11 Somali Pirates 🏴‍☠️. INS Sumitra, post rescuing MV Iman, was again pressed into action to locate & intercept another 🇮🇷 Iranian flagged FV which had been boarded by pirates and her Crew taken hostage. Responding swiftly to the developing situation Sumitra intercepted the FV on PM 29 Jan 24 & through coercive posturing & effective deployment of her integral helo & boats compelled the safe release of the crew and the vessel. This rescue of hijacked Vessels, through swift, persistent and relentless efforts by Mission Deployed Indian Navy warship in the Southern Arabian Sea approx. 850 nm West of Kochi, also prevents misuse of Fishing Vessels as Mother Ships for further acts of Piracy on Merchant Vessels.

Indian Army recently conducted large scale air borne training exercise “Devil Strike” in North Bengal where in the airborne force consisting of 1000 Para troopers & GARUDs inducted into designated area by Combat Free Fall (CFF) employing latest Guided Precision Aerial Delivery System GPADS, destroyed High Value Targets (HVTs) while Post Strike Damage Assessment being carried by Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA). The exercise showcased integrated employment of latest weapons & equipment in a networked battlefield under intense Electronic Warfare environment & Indian Armed Forces’ capability to employ an air borne force swiftly in a dynamic situation.
