Now fading in the memory the Hawker Siddeley Nimrod was one of the most iconic maritime patrol aircraft of the Cold War. Based in the airliner de Havilland Comet served with the UK for 40 years. Pic taken in Jan 1983 and interestingly it carries AIM-9 Sidewinder, unusual for its role.

Ok, I'm am not a submarine expert, and read this elsewhere on the net, that is referred to as a grass skirt due to an extended period of slow patrolling during which plant life grows on the hull. Looking at how extensive the skirt is, they've been low and slow for a long time.

“Once we landed on the strip we stopped to refuel before taking off again, I couldn’t help but look around and think ‘I am sitting in a jet on a road in the middle of a forest in Finland’. That was pretty crazy and definitely a first.”

On Sunday, October 1, 2023, the British newspaper Daily Mirror was the first to report that, in accordance with the decision of British Defense Minister Grant Shapps, four Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4 multi-role aircraft were sent to Poland on the same day to strengthen the allied defense of NATO's eastern flank.

Deploying our aircraft ahead of the parliamentary elections in Poland will be a very powerful way to undeniably show Vladimir Putin that our government will protect democracy and freedom against any despotic tyrant who threatens our allies, said Minister Grant Shapps in a statement to the media.
