Enemy weapons ranging from an assassin grenade to a 107mm rocket with a range of 15,000 metres are inspected at the 1st Australian Task Force Base (1ATF) in Nui Dat, by Private Des Morris of Bogan Gate, NSW (left), and Corporal Jeff Millhouse of Campbelltown, SA. The captured rockets and grenades were presented to the Australians by US Army Explosives Ordnance Demolition experts.

1970. A trading post tent on 1 Ordnance Field Park (1OFP) lines at the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) Base at Nui Dat, with coloured sandbags piled out the front. Three alternative signs posted outside the tent indicate the social and political climate of the camp, including a sign reading 'Dat come, disc go' (the name of the tent), a peace sign and a painted wooden guitar. The colours and signs were symbols of the 60's and a reminder of life back in Australia.

Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam. 1968-08. Soldiers of the Defence and Employment Platoon, Headquarters Company, 1st Australian Task Force (1 ATF) (Nui Dat) (D & E Platoon), attached to Task Force Headquarters at Nui Dat, inside an armoured personnel carrier on operation north of Nui Dat to establish a Fire Support Base. During the journey they had three APC's damaged in eight days, by running over mines on a major road.

Nui Dat, South Vietnam. April 1971. Father D. B. Casey on his motorcycle out on the road outside the Chaplain's hut at Nui Dat, Headquarters of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF). Father Casey, chaplain with 1st Field Squadron at the Task Force often had to walk his round but had just taken delivery of the motorcycle from the Task Force Light Aid Detachment (LAD) Unit. The motorcycle was originally intended for use by the Vietnamese padres but proved to be too heavy for them. Members of the LAD recovered it and restored it in their spare time.

Someone at the AWM has made a cock up with the caption, it was just the one platoon Defence and Employment Platoon. http://www.hq1atf.org/history.htm they were used as everything from construction labour to being the Task Force's reconnaissance platoon.

When Kevin Rudd took his missus to Iraq, the media indicated this was the first time a PMs wife had been to a war zone. But they forgot about Mrs Gorton.

Captain Newman was the Promotions Manager for the Bank of Adelaide and had been in the Citizen Military Forces for sixteen years. He met his two former workmates at the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) Base at Nui Dat.
