One of the 406 mm S262 guns at the Lindemann Batterie near Calais in France. They were the biggest and most powerful on the Atlantic Wall, having originally been designed for the 130,000 ton H-class battleships. Lindemann Batterie is often seen in propaganda photos from the time, but is rarely mentioned by name. Sadly, the battery was buried by spoil coming out of the Channel Tunnel project in the 1980s.

Galveston Tx had several bunkers large calibre shore defense, machine gun bunkers and other defense positions for the war. The large bunkers remained and up until about 20 years ago only one was still left intact. A large corporation bought the property the bunker rest on to build a big hotel on the sea front. They had to sign an agreement that the bunker remained and untouched so they did but it isn't like it was when I was a young boy of 6 standing in the doorway of one of the bunkers. It is covered today with grass and scrubs and does not look like it did in 1954 and beyond.
