On 7 February 1967, Company “A”, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) on Operation “Thayer II”, conducted a search and destroy mission against the Viet Cong in the An Lao Valley approximately 400 miles Northeast of Saigon, Republic of Vietnam. Members of the company return to their base camp with Viet Cong prisoners captured in mountain caves.
