PHILIPPINE SEA (Jan. 6, 2021) Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Handling) Airman Chase Bice, from Houston, directs the landing of an MH-60S helicopter assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 12 on the flight deck of the amphibious transport dock ship USS New Orleans (LPD 18). New Orleans, part of the America Amphibious Ready Group, along with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. SIGONELLA, Italy (Dec. 31, 2020) Naval Aircrewman (Operator) 2nd Class Michael Kalinowski, assigned to the "Grey Knights" of Patrol Squadron (VP) 46, scans for radar contacts aboard a P-8A maritime patrol aircraft, Dec. 31, 2020. VP-46 is currently forward deployed to the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations and is assigned to Commander, Task Force 67, responsible for tactical control of deployed maritime patrol and reconnaissance squadrons throughout Europe and Africa. U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts a full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national security interests and stability in Europe and Africa. PACIFIC OCEAN (Jan. 6, 2021) Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class William Lulias, from Jacksonville, Fla., fires an M240B machine gun during a live-fire exercise aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Russell (DDG 59). Russell, part of the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group, is on a scheduled deployment to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. As the U.S. Navy’s largest forward deployed fleet, with its approximate 50-70 ships and submarines, 140 aircraft, and 20,000 Sailors in the area of operations at any given time, 7th Fleet conducts forward-deployed naval operations in support of U.S. national interests throughout a free and open Indo-Pacific area of operations to foster maritime security, promote stability, and prevent conflict alongside 35 other maritime nations and partners.
