Note how the life lines on the starboard side have to be lowered for the gun to fire. Another poor design element.

Sorry @Chazman but nothing to do with design mate. All gun armed warships will lower their guard rails prior to a shoot, it's a safety precaution in case the gun needs to fire at lowest depression. I'm actually surprised they have only lowered the starboard side ones. It was a requirement to lower all the rails on the fo'c'sle when a shoot was on in the RAN.

SUEZ CANAL (Nov. 27, 2019) Seaman Khalil Hancock stands the port bridge wing watch as the guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60) transits the Suez Canal. Normandy is part of the East Coast Surface Action Group and is operating in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
