Disaster has struck Ukrainian Air Force. An-26 transport aircraft carrying 5 crew members and 22 Air Force Academy cadets crashed during landing in the vicinity of Kharkiv. Only one cadet survived a crash, but the are not expected to pull through. Technical malfunction (engine failure) along with crew error (wing clipped the ground) are considered the primary causes of the crash. The air frame was 43 years old, but had less than 6,000 hours on it. The engines were older than a plane, but did pass government inspection had a reserve of over 500 hours each.
Cadets from "Troop 133" who were killed in a crash.
Cadet Vyacheslav Zolochevskiy is the sole survivor of the crash. Amazingly he didn't sustain any serious injuries or burns. But his mental state is of a concern, and for the moment nobody is allowed to speak with him about the crash. According to the witnesses moments after the crash when Vyacheslav regained consciousness he managed to pull another cadet from a fire (who passed away, unfortunately) and tried to save other who were already dead at that point.
