Other Post So, how was your day?

The guidance here is if you're over the acute symptoms, crack on. They do indicate you can put it off for 6 months, but my GP indicated that with Omnicron floating around, delaying more than 30 days isn't ideal.
How are your symptoms? Mine lasted for about 3 days then now just a dry cough

Finally tested negative yesterday, woo hoo. And so far all 10 in our office tested negative to so we are back in action. The lines are getting longer in testing sites though. I was impressed at how my countrymen are being disciplined and not going outdoors.... turned out they were all at IKEA.

Looks like an outdoor party to me......

Mine lasted the week, no loss of taste, but a cough, productive, and my voice was pretty ragged, and it's normally like rolling thunder at the best of times. Still feel a bit weak, like only as strong as 4 or 5 men, instead of the normal 10.

Ok men I need 6 volunteers to topple Digrar, who's with me?

It seems you have astronger Omnicron than what I got. Then again I just got boosted 3 weeks before I got it. So I just got lucky probably

Oh just pepper spray him real good in the snout and he'll wish he had Omnicron, then you'll take the field......no need for the volunteers!! HA ??☺️

I've been OC sprayed before, I'll be adopting the Patches O'Houlihan 5 D's of dodging, ducking, dipping, diving and dodging to ensure I don't get sprayed again.

Or the CS session, where you have to take of your gasmask, and give your service number and surname.

For some reason Very few of the Pemberton - Farquhar-Amityville family made it through.......

.....say again........

I had a phone call from the car dealership where I had bought my car two years ago last Friday asking and suggesting me to replace the timing belt. Uh, oh, okay my car is nearing six years old but has only 40,000km.

I could only find the time to call them shortly after noon today, telling them it’s obviously not a priority right now especially after getting the replacement estimate: 670€.

Thanks but no thanks, I have and had other urgent expanse this late January.

Are car dealer/mechanics still very much crooks? Some things just never change.

You need to be careful with timing belts, if it goes you will be cheaper to get another car.

But 670 euro is a lot- find a local garage that can do it for about half that.

You’re right, but 40k kilometers is far below the critical point before I need to change it according to my user manual. Just because my car is old already it’s not the main issue. More like the mileage.

You’re also right that at the local cheaper garage, it would only be 300 odd €uros.

Thanks, I definitely need to figure this out then and keep looking into a possible cheaper option if anything.

Okay - you need to do the sanity test?

How many of vehicle x have had their timing belt fail? In fact, how many people do you know who have had their timing belt fail?

Does if effect the resale value if the timing belt has not been changed?

How long are you going to keep the car - before you chop it in for an electric one?

If you are going to keep it for 10 years and put 100,000 miles on it then yes it may be worth doing - but seriously oil and air filter change every 20K would be money better spent (and tyres)

Why take apart an engine that is running perfectly well and let some half arsed apprentice put it back together

Garage is trawling for work - any decent garage is fully booked up

Excellent points, and to reply precisely, literally no one around me has ever had their timing belts fail them and ruin the engine.

Normally after getting some real life advices about it. It takes about at least 100k miles or kilometers before you need to change it.

Just got better - had UPS delivery message from Dell to say a new machine will be here tomorrow - or its bag?

It's been on order since just after Xmas

OH's grandson had one of my 'old' work laptops, and it died over Xmas - I have loaned him another one FTB - but his parents were arguing about who was going to get him a new one:mad: - he is in his final year before going to university and is exceptionally bright

So we have bought him a decent laptop and a bag - I ramped up the processor and the memory, so it should see him for a couple of years and I have also gifted him a spare 4K 26" monitor as well - his school is affiliated to Dell, so we also managed to get nearly £400 off which I was happy about:)

He wants to do Bio-chemistry and in particular phages? - there are a couple of Pharmaceutical companies that want to sponsor him at university
