Other Post So, how was your day?

+4F here and snowing right along. Got a new snow blower for Christmas (great gift but rather spendy). It was on the patio and needed moved to the garage in front. After 6 futile yanks on the handle, I remembered it has electric start.

Plugged it in... *crank crank crank* Bingo! Electric start is a wonderful invention!

Moved it around front & ran it a bit to get a feel for the controls. Discovered I needed goggles and probably an old towel wrapped around my mug for blowing snow. Since it's still snowing, I'll wait for more to accumulate before hitting it hard.

Must be winter on the prairie!

Went out earlier to pick up Screwfix order as it had given snow - it had just started as I came home

Glad to be back as there has now been a big smash at the bottom of our road on the main road

Just seen the pictures on Facebook it looks like carnage - I feel sorry for my neighbour as there are two cars in his wall and one has ruptured the rad - as there is a nice pink stain all the way down the road

Police and fire and ambulance are there now trying to clear the vehicles

Update on smash - it was 5 vehicles and what I could not see was the Electric Prius stuck in my neighbour's wall - below the other one

Police were not very happy in moving it as there was an issue with the battery packs and were concerned it would burst into flames - so they have had a crane and a recovery lorry

The other 4 cars are in the pub car park in a bit of a mess

Good news is now it's been cleared the council have gritted the road.................

Whilst down at the shop .. The chap who runs the shop went out and spoke to a guy ..asking him for his money ..

Ethier money he was owed .. for goods or he loaned him . As the guy has a knack of trying to buying stuff whilst having no money or short of money ..Like i saw down at the Co Op .. a while back ..

Whilst i was in the shop the 2 of them had an argument .. outside and chap he was arguing with giving words as he was walking away ,,

A Rare sight on the back rds was seeing the roads had been snowploughed .. that's all fine well but it defeats the point when no grit being laid down whilst the snow is being ploughed.
All it does , is turn it into a skating rink and as the day progressed and the temperature dropped the black ice on some parts was ,,,,lethal . I had to walk most of it when heading home compared to the previous years of cycling down the road . I clocked a new ditch dug along stretch of the rd heading up towards barnbrock camp site . Pity anyone that ends up in it .. and it was that cold when i kicked Lump of snow it was frozen solid , If I was closer to the dam I would have thrown it in .. and used it for Iceberg pics .. lol

.. Need better gloves that will keep my fingers warm .even with 3 pairs on hands were numb with the cold .

I'm not on Facebook which I find works for me - the problem though, is that people often make announcements on there and just assume everybody knows.
Case in point, at 9pm last night I got a text to tell me that the funeral of an old friends's father is this afternoon. Work have been brilliant though - let me take the afternoon of at short notice and nobody has really cared that there was a 30 minute period this morning where I wasn't at my desk at home because I was busy ironing a shirt and polishing my shoes.

Ordered a glove light - bit like a hand strap but with 2 leds, so you can see then you are working in a dark confined area - opened the package some sort of USB lead with a colour controller for strips of leds - nop not good

Did my annual check to make sure the Government had uploaded my last year's NI record and noticed that it now gives you a total you have paid each year - that's new, I thought. So it actually has the details of all 44 years contributions and their values
Stuck it in a spreadsheet and I will have to collect my state pension for at least 20 years to get back what I have paid in - FFS that's a challenge
(top tip for UK residents - get a Govt Gateway and check your NI record as they screwed the upload for some people - also keep a screenshot of it as it all 'disappears' once you get to pension age)

FB I find very useful for a lot of notifications, between 1997 when I left the service up to today its been a handy way in catching up with whats what and who has passed on, for example Jan 8th 2022 received the sad news of the passing of Hugie McGuire, from Blacklion in County Cavan, a man I served with back in the late 1970's/1990's.
Hugie McGuire Dixie man extrodinare..jpg

A grand quiet chap who took whatever chore was thrown at him employed as a member of the 19th Infantry Battalion Reserve (F.C.A.) on full time border duties, a volunteer position, many of the F.C.A were looked down upon by those in the regular army, but some of these guys were real work-horses, they might have looked a bit funny in their short battledress tunics, sporting .303 Mk.4 rifles when on camp guard, or on Fire Picket duty many employed as Dixie scrubbers aka "Pearl divers", dishwashers, Mess waiters, or orderly's, but they freed up a lot of regular guys for border patrol duties during the time of the Troubles.

Hugie was an avid reader of newspapers and books, always had a little transistor radio following the news and sports, loved his pint of Guinness when not on security Duties, always a smile on his face, working from early morning till early evening in the thankless task of washing up after meals were served, or peeling spuds and many more jobs that could be found around the cookhouse many never gave a thought to him having family and a small farm some 35+km away from the base, having to hitch there and back or if lucky enough to cadge a lift with a patrol going in that direction.

A nice tribute paid to him was the live-streaming of his funeral mass for many friends who could not get to the event itself due to COVID Restrictions.

God Speed to your Eternal Reward Hugie, till we meet up further down the road lad.

Ugh, I had my third shot of the Pfizer yesterday and started to feel a bit poop late last night. This morning I got up at sparrow fart to go shooting with the new shotgun. Now I feel like I've been put through the wringer. Paracetemol, whiskey and an early night are prescribed by Dr.Kiwi

Feeling much better today thanks. Operating at about 75-80% efficiency.

Much like Pfizer or so they say…

Third jab went really smoothly here, but after being jabbed twice with Pfizer they wanted to mix it up with a Moderna booster instead.

Aside from that, I had a good day thanks. Asian buffet for lunch because of the missus birthday. Weather is still pretty gloomy.

Got the TV on the wall - now my arm really hurts

Had to go and find 4 mounting screws for the bracket as they are 6mm longer than the ones in the old TV - not amused

It was like hook a duck at the fairground - but doing it blindfold - with a bag of cement you can't grab hold of

Hopefully we will have sold this house and moved before it needs changing again

Then spent the rest of the day updating the apps and putting all the passwords in for netflix, amazon, BBC etc.

Just got utube to do as for some reason it needs a LG account before it will download the app

Due to get mine next Monday, tested positive yesterday, have been feeling off since Friday.

What is the story when that is the situation? Put it off until you're better or just go ahead anyway?

The guidance here is if you're over the acute symptoms, crack on. They do indicate you can put it off for 6 months, but my GP indicated that with Omnicron floating around, delaying more than 30 days isn't ideal.
