Wow, the place was awash in serious weapons.

Some rando rusty old Mauser is one thing, but a great many of these photos show people carrying what was current at the time. Or near enough as matters.

yanks sent stuff, Russia/Libya sent stuff, I dont know how we know this is Australian, I'd have thought it was locally stolen somehow?

Given the ubiquity of the FAL pattern worldwide at that time, could be from so many sources. (edit: Including the US civilian market actually.)

That's not an Aussie L1A1, the backsight is wrong....no idea where the original poster got the info from

I thought it's handguard with three dots were dead giveaway for Aussie Lithgow made L1A1s.

The early version actually had 2 longitudinal slots in the furniture, the later version had the 3 circular holes as did the Canadian later versions. The backsight in the photo is different to the one on Aussie L1A1's but is similar to Canadian backsights
